What's Polished Concrete
Polished concrete is the process of grinding the surface of existing concrete, to get a very smooth to mirror-like finish. When you grind enough of the concrete surface, you reveal small rocks in the concrete called aggregate, and gravel that was used in the cement mix. This process is repeated several times similar to sanding wood for a smooth finish. At one point during this process a concrete liquid, hardener is applied into the concrete to fill in micro-voids for added strength, protection and ability to be polished. A final penetrating sealer is optionally applied in the end. The finished product should be a breathable surface, no waxes or topical sealer should be applied in this process.
Note: Although there are multiple ways to polish concrete, (wet/dry/topical/deep) the above is a standard for educational purposes. A qualified, experienced contractor would test an area to be performed on accordingly.
